Fair Game UK

Whilst attending the Fair Game UK talk this week there was one point made by Damian Green MP that we thought was very interesting. 📚

He stressed that the introduction of the the new Independent English Football Regulator(IR) will be a good vehicle to create meaningful change across English Football. ✅

But his idea of the IR setting up a separate money fund which would be established by putting a levy on football broadcasting revenues, to help provide a funding line to the clubs which are invovled in serious financial difficulties was a good one.🤔 (I.e helping them pay wages, taxes etc.)

The key is that it isn’t just a mechanism to bail out the owners of these clubs but it helps provide stability to the key stakeholders within the club who are dependent on monies coming in. 💳

The aim of this would be to minimise the impacts of the owners failings on the club. However, there will also need to be strict penalties introduced towards the owners for poor sustainability and governance. 🏟️

A good case to read up on is Sheffield Wednesday.. where the clubs owner Dejphon Chansiri asked fans to raise £2m to pay wages and HMRC. Which is unprecedented. 😞

Thanks to Fair Game UK. for a great event 🏆 #football #sustainability #finance #viral #posts #bigdata #efl
